Bush fires because of negligence of maintenance

Bush fires from lightning or human activities can’t be prevented, but serious damage due to a quick spreading of fire can. At Zazamalala we start with cleaning the land 2 m around newly planted seedlings and continue this by yearly weeding. Second, we keep 10 m wide fire lanes clean. Third, we take dead branches and trunks in the forest down. Zazamalala has almost 24 years of experience in the dry deciduous forest of west Madagascar and this is why our reforestation is successful.
