Battle against tall grass

Large bush fires are often resulting from lack of maintenance. Yearly maintenance at Zazamalala consists of cutting down the dead branches in the forest and cleaning fire lanes to slow down fire. Newly planted trees are cleaned from weeds and tall grass. Traditionally, this is done with the fibara, a kind of machete, but we tried to introduce more sophisticated methods, e.g. a motor mower. This works, but goes too slow. Introduction of a tractor may solve the problem, but your promising suggestions are welcome.

This picture shows a meeting where 2000 local people listened to Malagasy authorities warning them for the risk of bush fire threatening the Zazamalala forest.
